When heading to the mattress store, there are a few myths to know that will make your buying experience much
more fruitful. A mattress is something that will be with you for a long
time, so being informed before buying will help you choose the perfect mattress.
Myth #1: Longer Warranties Equal Better Mattresses
If a mattress comes with a warranty that is good for 15 or 20 years, then
you are not necessarily getting a better deal. Mattresses should be replaced
within 10 years or when they simply become uncomfortable. Just because
a mattress comes with a longer warranty does not mean that it is a better
mattress. You will still probably be replacing it well before the warranty
is up. Keep in mind, too, that warranties often only cover manufacturer
defects. Normal wear and tear may not be covered under any warranty.
Myth #2: All Mattress Support Is Created Equal
When you first lie down on a mattress, you may have a good idea of what
feels comfortable right away. However, comfort is not the only important
factor to consider while mattress shopping. Support is an essential part
of a mattress, and it might be offered through coils, memory foam, or
air-filled pockets. You’ll want to try out a variety of different
types of mattresses with various support systems to know what is right
for your body and preferred sleep posture.
Myth #3: You Don’t Need to Spend Much Time Shopping
You are making a purchase that you will spend a significant portion of
your life on; this is not a time to rush. When purchasing a mattress,
you should lie on it for at least 10 minutes to get a sense of how your
body responds, so you’ll want to schedule adequate time to shop
effectively.
